I don’t think I will ever get tired of beach elopements! California beaches have so much diversity it’s unmatched in any other state. If you want a really accessible beach with a lot of energy and a boardwalk, head over to Santa Monica or Venice beach which has Class-A boardwalks that spans several miles with piers that have carnival rides, these would be perfect for a Los Angeles beach elopement if you’re looking for activities to do afterward.
Not only that but there are plenty of beaches next to campgrounds as well as remote beaches with rock formations and sea caves. These beaches are my favorite but they are hard to find. The beaches here in southern California are by far the prettiest beaches in my opinion and they are perfect for elopements!
Los Angeles Beach Elopement Location
Nicole and Russel reached out to me wanting to have a “Just us” elopement on the beaches of Malibu. Although they originally wanted to have a Joshua Tree elopement with their 9 Kids, Yes, I said 9 kids!! But after some consideration, they decided to go with a Los Angeles beach elopement here in Malibu, which of course made me very excited! (Although I also love shooting elopements in Joshua tree). Check out Andrea and Kevin’s Joshua Tree elopement if you’re planning to elope in Joshua Tree and see my Joshua Tree elopement guide for all the info you need to plan for one!
Beach Elopement Portraits
We started Nicole and Russel’s Los Angeles beach elopement with their ceremony on the rocky coastline and captured creative portraits as Nicole and Russel danced around in the sand.
Nicole and Russel’s elopement was during the weekday in the morning when the tides were low so that we could access the sea caves along the Malibu coast. It was a gorgeous morning with a tiny ocean breeze but still warm enough that Nicole and Russel got in the water for some sexy couple photos! It’s fairly common for there to be a breeze coming off the ocean making the temperature about 5-10 degrees cooler than what the weather app says so always make sure to plan accordingly!
I loved capturing Nicole and Russel’s love, they were so kind and caring! I noticed they had a calming harmony together. This is Nicole and Russell’s second marriage. It’s always so nice to see people enter into this second chapter in life and help them do it in a fun, interesting way with an opportunity to have an intimate ceremony and lots of amazing portraits together in a beautiful setting.
Both Nicole and Russel came down from Bakersfield for their elopement ceremony and headed off to San Deigo the next day to see one of their favorite rock bands in concert. A perfect way to start their life together as a married couple!
