Victoria and Jack’s beach engagement photoshoot was meant to be as they were not planning on having another engagement shoot since they had one in Louisiana where they are from. But while they were on vacation in here LA Victoria opted to have a beach engagement photoshoot here in Malibu!
Beach Engagement Photoshoot Location
Victoria loved the idea of having a beach engagement session as she loves the variety of beaches that the California coast has to offer. Not only that but she was so excited to jump into the ocean with Jack and get some portraits in the water so, of course, we had to shoot at one of Malibu’s beaches.
It was a clear summer day but it was also a little windy. This is something you always need to consider when planning on having a beach engagement photoshoot. Unfortuantely, there’s almost always wind at the beach and it can be 10-15 degrees cooler compared to inland.
How to Still Rock your Photos on a Windy Day
So how do you deal with the wind and still get the photos you envision? It’s infrequent that there isn’t any wind on the beach so you must prepare for it!
Your hair can be blown around which means your photos may have a wind-blown look. Although, that doesn’t mean they won’t turn out great! Your photographer will make sure to pose you in the right direction so that youre facing into the wind. As this will keep your hair from blowing directly in your face but keep in mind that doesn’t stop any flyaways.
Here are just a couple of tips I’d recommend to still look great for your beach engagement photos even if there is wind!
I highly recommend a half-up, half-down hairstyle for the beach. If you have a hair type that does not hold curls very well, there probably is no point in paying to get it done. But If your hair does hold curls, go for it! If you’ve got short hair, and don’t want your hair out of place Id recommend putting lots of jel in it, especially for men!
However, beach sessions aren’t for everyone so if you don’t like the wind then I wouldn’t recommend a beach session. There’s almost always wind on the beach so make sure to consider that when planning your photo shoot with your photographer.
Beach Sunset Portraits
We stayed at the beach until golden and blue hour to capture the sunset! If you haven’t heard the term “golden hour”, it’s the time shortly after sunrise and shortly before sunset. This is when the sky is redder and softer than when the sun is already up. It’s the perfect time to shoot especially on the beach. At this time of day, photos are less likely to be overexposed and won’t cast harsh shadows. Plus there are a lot fewer people later in the day too!
Shooting Victoria and Jack’s engagement session was a pleasure! Victoria is such a sweetheart, she wanted to make her wedding experience the best that it could be, so she went out of her way to make her Malibu engagement session happen. She put thought into the vision for the day as well as her fiance’s outfit and was very persistent about having an engagement session although they already had one at home in Louisiana.
