I will never get tired of shooting an elopement in Big Sur. Big Sur, California is one of the most magical places on the coast! It has everything a couple looking to elope in the great outdoors could dream of! From Rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, and spectacular forests, to endless horizons and unforgettable sunsets. A destination that I will always treasure and recommend for any couple!
Beatriz and Justin knew they wanted to have a “just us” elopement as they both knew that having a big wedding wasn’t for them and they wanted to explore a part of California that they’d never been to before! So they decided to have an elopement in Big Sur!
What I thought was so cute was that Beatriz and Justin met at work and Justin knew the moment he met her that he wanted to marry her! You tend to only hear that in movies but Beatriz and Justin were meant to be together and you could feel the overwhelming love they had for one another the whole day.
Beatriz and Justin are both thoughtful people and it shows in the amount of detail that they put into their elopement! They bought matching wedding converse shoes, had their rings engraved, and had custom vow books and champagne glasses. These little things can help to make your elopement special and give a unique, personalized touch to the day.
Big Sur Elopement Itinerary
Beatriz and Justin started the day at their cabin at Glen oaks while Bea got her hair and makeup done. I love when couples decide to rent a cabin as it really adds to the getting ready photos, each cabin is so unique and beautiful with the woodsy aesthetic that adds to a forest elopement!
After Beatriz and Justin got dressed they did a first look, which is always one of my favorite moments to capture. Each first-look moment is special and unique in its own way, you never know how the groom is going to react! What I loved most was the attention to detail that Justin had when it came to fashion, he even picked out Beatriz’s dress, and it was his idea for her to wear a flower crown! I really love when grooms are invested in their wedding day and get excited about the details!
After the first look, we headed out to the ceremony location that they had picked out in the forest. I always have suggestions for where to do the ceremony location, but I first leave it up to the couple to choose their special spot. One of the things I love about elopements is that I’ve never photographed a couple in the same ceremony spot. Each couple chooses their own spot, their own special coordinates on this big beautiful world. Unlike wedding venues, where thousands have stood before, adventure elopements allow couples to find their own special corner – a place that speaks to them. Beatriz and Justin chose a spot where they were nestled around towering redwoods, it was as if it was just them and the trees and no one else!
After their intimate ceremony, Beatriz and Justin found a fallen log that they fell in love with and wanted pictures taken on. This fallen log was no joke – it was a good 10-15 feet in the air with a small stream of water underneath. I loved how adventurous Beatriz and Justin were being as I’m all about taking photos of couples where ever they want! Especially areas that are going to have the most incredible photos! These are some of my favorite photos from the whole day!
Pheiffer Beach Portaits
After taking photos in the forest, we went back to their cabin to celebrate with some champagne and cake! I gave them a break to eat some lunch before heading to Pheiffer beach, the famous beach with purple sand and keyhole. This beach is so picturesque with all its rock features.
After Pheiffer beach, we stopped by one of the nearby bridges to take photos. I was so excited when Beatriz and Justin pulled out lanterns and lights! I knew these photos were going to turn out gorgeous! And when the classic Big Sur fog rolled in, it made the photos so magical! Beatriz and Justin got the best of Big Sur – sunshine during their elopement ceremony in the forest, and fog by the coastline!
Capturing Beatriz and Justin’s Redwood elopement in Big Sur was so dreamy! A Big Sur adventure elopement really suited their personalities! Justin especially loved being surrounded by the trees and forest and being able to make a campfire right outside on the porch of their cabin. The love you could feel throughout the day from them both was beautiful.
