Myke and Mason’s Catalina Island Proposal on Avalon was such a special milestone and I’m so glad I could be a part of it! This was a last-minute booking, one week before I was traveling to the island to shoot an elopement. So it just so happened that I was already going to be on the island for the elopement and Myke wanted to do the proposal the day after, it worked out perfectly!
Myke wanted to propose to Mason on their anniversary as they have been together for quite some time. He actually gave Mason a promise ring previously but was now ready to propose for marriage. Myke knew that Catalina Island was the location he wanted to propose to Mason on since he had been to the island before, but needed help with specific locations and details on how to plan the overall Catalina Island proposal. I, of course, was more than happy to help! When I photograph proposals I not only take the photos I also help plan them to make sure everything and everyone has a smooth experience!
When you are planning a surprise proposal, especially one with family members involved, it takes coordination. I recommend hiring a photographer who not only captures the intimate, memorable moments but one that will help coordinate the day, whether it’s just for a couple of hours or more.
I met up with Myke and Mason’s family immediately after they got off the ferry and we headed straight to the golf cart rental shop. I loved that Myke arranged for his parents and his partner’s brother and sister to surprise Mason with the proposal. It’s so special when you can invite your closest loved ones to share in a life-changing moment like this!
One of my favorite things about Catalina Island is the fact that almost everyone travels around the island on golf carts. This is such a fun and unique experience compared to traveling around by taxi, although you have the option to do that as well. While I was meeting up with their family Myke took Mason to the opposite side of Avalon so there wasn’t a chance that we would see each other. While we were eagerly waiting on their arrival Myke and Mason rented an E-bike to make their way up to the overlook. Once they got up there Mason was completely surprised!
Myke read Mason a poem that had everyone tearing up and proposed with the ring. The family congratulated them on their new adventure together and we took some engagement photos as well as family photos right before they headed off to dinner to celebrate.
Capturing this milestone for Myke and Mason was so beautiful. They are both two peas in a pod, they even showed up wearing matching abstract button-down shirts, it was so cute! They were both so excited to start this journey together and are eager to see where life takes them!
