Winter Beach wedding in Malibu, CA | Brianna & Matt

I will say this again and again, intimate Malibu weddings and elopements are my favorite! Especially during the off-season. Briana and Matt’s beach wedding in Malibu was incredible! The weather was absolutely gorgeous. It was in the mid-70s, with no wind. This can be pretty rare, especially during the winter months. During the winter it usually isn’t always perfect at the beach. The weather can be windy, cloudy, or even rainy at Point Dume beach. But Briana and Matt lucked out and had a clear sunny day!

We also had the entire beach to ourselves! Currently, the road to the parking lot next to Point Dume is under construction due to erosion, so there were only a few other people there. Not only that, but it was SO green and all the daisies were in full bloom. I love this time of year in Malibu!

The vegetation visibly dries up toward the end of May so the off-season is the perfect time to elope here! By the time June rolls around, the grass and plants have turned brown. Even though there’s generally more rain in the forecast in these “winter months,” there’s so much more in bloom and the landscape is more lush and vibrant. I loved that we were able to capture this for Briana and Matt’s beach wedding in Malibu.

Beach wedding in Malibu Itinerary

When Briana and Matt reached out to me they knew right away the vision they had for their elopement day. Briana loved some of my previous Malibu elopement sessions so she was set on having her own. They wanted to have a simple but lively beach wedding in Malibu, where their closest friends who drove all the way up from Apple Valley and Carlsbad were gathered to celebrate them.

Briana and Matt’s elopement started off with Briana’s dad walking her down the “aisle”. He also ended up officiating their wedding, which was such a beautiful moment. Briana and Matt didn’t have a set up of chairs or archway for their wedding instead the guests stood for the short ceremony and then blew bubbles as they were pronounced married. This was my favorite part, send-offs are always such a fun way to celebrate the couples tying the knot!

After sending off the beautiful couple we took some photos with their family and friends. This was really important to Briana as it’s been years since all of the family was gathered in one spot. 

Bride and Groom Portraits

After Briana and Matt tied the know we headed up to Point Dume to take romantic couple’s photos. Just wait till you see the most gorgeous sunset we had right before we finished taking their bride and groom portraits!

The sunset was so clear, vivid, and absolutely breathtaking! Another reason I love capturing elopements in the off-season. During the summer months, the sun often sets underneath at fog bank which has been coined “June Gloom.” I can’t recommend enough to elope in the off-season. You’ll not only have more privacy at the beach but your chances of having a clear sunset on the horizon are much greater! 

After spending time capturing Briana and Matt having fun down at the beach and on the cliffside, I let Briana and Matt enjoy the sunset on the horizon alone.

I captured moments of both of them basking in their now-married life and right as the sun was setting Briana started shedding tears and letting out the happy emotion of the day. It was SO sweet! I loved that I was able to capture a few photos of Matt wiping away her tears. I hope they can look back on these memories and remember what a gorgeous day they had!
