But you still might be wondering how to plan out your adventure. Don’t worry—that’s where I come in. From a detailed discovery call to understand you better, to creating the ideal day-of timeline, to handling all logistics, I’m here to help.
You’re stoked to explore the breathtaking beauty of Hawaii.
You’re relieved to let go of the stress of planning a big wedding.
You’re excited to elope for a “just us” experience.
The Na'pali coast on Kauai is one of the most stunning wilderness areas I've had the pleasure of experiencing. There's a trail along the top ridge (pictured) that makes for a great adventure and an epic spot to exchange vows.
There are incredible beaches along Kauai's northern town of Hanalei and eastern shore area - many of which are kept secret! I've had the good fortune of discovering many of these beaches that make for a stunning location for your ceremony and portraits!
If you are like me and love the lush green and misty mountain peaks, you are going to love the Ko'olau Range on O'ahu. (The famous Pali Puka trail is at the top of this range.) Although I don't recommend that hike for your ceremony or portraits unless you are very comfortable with heights, the Ko'olau mountain range makes for an awesome backdrop!
I'm always up for an adventure that involves water! Especially in Hawaii because the water is so warm! I've seen countless sea turtles and colorful fish while snorkeling and scuba diving, so I definitely recommend this activity while on your trip!
If you are up for a hike through a canyon, Waimea is comparable to Haleakalā canyon on Maui. There are hiking trails that will take you to waterfalls and breathtaking views. This was one of my favorite hikes while on Kauai! If you aren't a big fan of lots of hiking, you can always tour it by helicopter.
Twin Falls on Maui is one of the more popular waterfalls, but it's a lovely area and accessible for many. If you are wanting to invite a few family members and have your ceremony by a waterfall, I recommend this one.
Haleakalā National Park on Maui is known for it's incredible sunrises, which I can personally attest! But Haleakalā Crater is also a really unique area that I've hiked and can make for a great elopement spot. The colors in the crater are unexpected and it looks like Iceland, but much warmer!
Red Sands beach is technically a nude beach..but when I was there, I had the place to myself! (No, I wasn't nude, ha!) It's a bit obscure to get to, and takes effort because you have to take The Road To Hana to get there, but the red sand quality is unlike the other beaches in Maui.
Kīlauea volcano on Hawai'i island - better known as "Big Island" is something that's indescribable until you see it in person. I've come to love Big Island over the years because it's much less populated with tourists that the other islands and has just as much to offer.. Each island has very distinct features that sets them a part from each other!
Perhaps all this hiking isn't really your thing! Maybe going to a botanical garden is more your speed. Although you won't be able to get pictures on top of a hill with a view, you'll be able to take in all the detail in the flora of Hawaii. One of my favorite trees is the rainbow eucalyptus!
The view at Haleakalā at sunrise is very accessible! If accessibility is your jam, (such as wanting to have some family members join you) you can have incredible photos that look like you are on top of the world just a few steps away from the parking lot! Note: you will have to walk a little ways to get away from the tourists who come to watch the sunrise.
I think it goes without saying that most people go to Hawaii for its beaches! I have favorite beaches on all the islands, but I have to say, there's something about the water on O'ahu that's a little extra light turquoise blue. The best thing about Hawaii is that you have it all: sandy beaches, rainforest mountain ranges, desert, waterfalls, the list goes on!

“After speaking with several Joshua Tree elopement photographers, we are SO glad that we chose Jennifer Whalen Photography! She is a true adventure wedding photographer at heart and was able to help us plan the most perfect and stress-free elopement! She knew the ins and outs of the location, permits, timing, weather and truly brought everything together seamlessly, which allowed us to be in the moment and enjoy our special day. In addition to the planning aspect, we LOVE how all of our photos and video came out. We are so grateful she was able to capture every detail and moment while we were able to just take it all in. She went above and beyond to capture every moment and is truly such a talented wedding photographer! In addition to her talent, she is super personable, which is important because your photographer is part of your wedding day, and Jennifer made the experience so much fun and truly such a memorable experience for us. Thank you, Jennifer!”
“Far exceeded our expectations!”

“We are from Germany, and we were looking for someone who could capture images of our elopement in Santa Monica. I contacted Jenn, and she was sooo great from the beginning. She answered all our questions via email (and I had a lot of questions), and that made us feel really good. When we arrived in Venice, we met her, and it felt like meeting a friend. She's fun and professional at the same time. We talked about our ideas, and she was unbelievably motivated and creative. Then we definitely knew that she was the right choice. On our elopement day, she was more than on time and well prepared. Our family and friends were amazed at the photos when we got back home. My nephew (6 years old) said: "That doesn't look real" because it was so perfect. Working with Jenn was the best thing that could have happened to us. It was fun, uncomplicated and she had so much energy and went on a rollercoaster ride with us :) Awesome pictures and an AWESOME PERSON! Thanks for everything!”
“What can I say?! PERFECT!!”

“From the moment my wife and I reached out to Jennifer wanting to schedule a mini wedding in Malibu, it was as if she could read our minds. When I told her the date, she mentioned Yosemite instead, our DREAM, but we never thought we could afford it. Everything was planned out, but Yosemite was shut down two days before the elopement due to wildfires. I just knew the whole thing would be canceled, but Jennifer jumped on it and gave us three other options. We went with Zion, and we were NOT disappointed. Jennifer and her videographer, Dan, went above and beyond to make our day super special. I had a place in mind for the ceremony, but Jennifer had already scoped out multiple locations. Trust her eye because she knows what she’s talking about! Jennifer and Dan are so fun to work with, and I recommend you hire them for all your wedding or elopement needs.”
“She went out of her way to make sure our day was super special.”
- Rebecca S.
Jenn is an amazing photographer and a super sweet person, and she made our elopement better than we could have ever imagined. On our first call with her, she was so patient with all of our many, many questions. After we selected Jenn to be our photographer, she made absolutely everything else fall into place. She had a contact for us to work with to get our marriage license and recommended lodging options and hair/makeup options. She was extremely knowledgeable about different shooting locations and helped us find the perfect spot in the woods for our ceremony. She took the time to iron out every little detail with us before the big day. Her photography is amazing, and she really does whatever it takes to get the perfect shot."
“Jennifer was *everything* for our elopement – our photographer, our officiant, and our planner!”
