The couple, who hail from Texas and San Diego, knew they wanted a ceremony that was intimate and surrounded by nature. This estate, with its panoramic views of the mountains, was the perfect location for their elopement.
Choosing the Perfect Elopement Location
Megan is an outdoorsy person who loves to hike. Her mom wanted the family to be a part of their California elopement, and Malibu Rocky Oaks was the perfect compromise. The estate is nestled in the mountains of Malibu and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding hilltops. It’s also a convenient place for family members who don’t want to hike. When Megan and her mom were searching for the perfect elopement location in California, they initially thought of booking a venue in Idyllwild. But when they saw the photos of Malibu Rocky Oaks on the website of their photographer, Jenn Whalen, they knew it was the perfect location for them.
A Roadtrip to Malibu
Megan’s parents took a road trip out to Malibu for the elopement. They rented an Airbnb in Malibu where they stayed for the week and got ready for the ceremony. So many eloping couples that have hired me have planned an incredible road trip around their elopement! And I’ve even noticed that parents and invited guests are starting to do the same! I love that couples and their families are including a once-in-a-lifetime road trip into their elopement experience! The couple started their day with brunch in Malibu with the family. And then everyone got ready for the evening.
A Beautiful Ceremony in the Mountains
I arrived at the Airbnb to capture some getting-ready moments of Megan’s mom helping her into her elopement dress. Jenn also did a first look with Megan and her dad by the pool. Then they headed to to the estate venue for the ceremony. Megan and her dad walked down the grand staircase to the circular terrace, where Megan’s dad performed the ceremony.
After the ceremony, I captured the family photos. Then we all headed up to the terrace by the infinity pool for champagne, toasts, cake cutting, and snacks. After everyone had a little break, I captured the romantic portraits of the couple around the estate. I took some of the most stunning sunset photos of the couple on the rocks as the sun lowered in the sky, casting vivid colors over the mountaintops.
