Maui, Hawaii may be one of my favorite places to photograph elopements. Maui is full of natural beauty wherever you look from sparkling sandy beaches, rocky coves, and lush tropical forests, to breathtaking volcanic views. One of the many breathtaking areas to have a Maui elopement. The Hawaiian Islands really have a lot to offer from different types of sceneries.
I was so ecstatic when Ayla and Dominic reached out to me ready to plan their Maui elopement. They both really embraced its diversity and we were ready to have the most magical elopement surrounded by mother nature. Both Ayla and Dominic stayed true to what they originally wanted which was a wedding day just for themselves and full of adventure! And what better place than Maui, Hawaii?!
Alya and Dominic envisioned having an elopement ceremony during sunset as well as portraits taken in the water and near a waterfall so we of course made that happen! Ayla and Dominic ended up purchasing my sunrise + sunset Hawaii elopement package as well as little more coverage to fill in the hours in the middle of the day as they wanted extra locations! My Hawaii elopement packages consist of two different packages, either a 12-hour package spread out within two days or an 8-hour full-day package. When couples have a lot of ideas just like Ayla and Dominic had for their day I always suggest going with the bigger package so we can get in as many locations and portraits as possible. When couples have a lot of ideas like this too, I love to help organize them so they fit comfortably into their day!
We started their elopement with underwater photos which Ayla had been waiting for! She saw previous photos that I’ve done and thought it was so unique and wanted to have her own. The water is so warm and the clarity is so visible in Hawaii that doing an underwater session is such a refreshing and fun experience. The best time to go is early in the morning when the waves are most calm and the visibility is the best so that’s what we did.
I always like to tell my couples that underwater photos aren’t for everybody. There’s a certain level of patience that’s required and a level of comfortability of being in the water and holding your breath that is necessary! If you’re an adventurous couple who wants creative and unique photos and is willing to do just about anything to get the shot then underwater photos are for you! It takes many tries to get just one killer photo so patience is key but it is infinitely worth it in the end and can be extremely much fun.
After shooting the underwater photos we took some fun intimate portraits of Ayla and Dominic at the outdoor showers in their bathing suites. I love when couples have fun with photos like this and really delve into the moment as if there the only two people around.
We then headed back to the Airbnb to shower and get ready for the rest of the day. Before we started the day we decided to hit up a food truck nearby, which was a great opportunity to take some candid photos of Alya and Dominic living in the present moment. Full-day elopements like these are truly that, full day, they are from early in the morning to after sunset. There’s adventure throughout the day as well as normal day-to-day things like stopping to eat, getting ready, and taking breaks. I love capturing these moments as these are the moments you will always remember.
After fueling our bodies for a full day ahead of us we headed to a secluded waterfall on the north side of the island to get some breathtaking photos! This area is so special as only locals know about it. One of the beneficial aspects of my service is that I help you plan your elopement and I put a lot of effort into finding areas that are more secluded like this one.
Next, we headed up to Haleakela National Park for their Maui elopement ceremony. Ayla really wanted a sunset ceremony, so they did what they had to do to get the breathtaking and super unique scenery that Haleakela crater has to offer. Which meant driving a good hour and a half to get to 10,000 ft elevation. We photographed until sunset, and called it a day!
Capturing Ayla and Dominic’s elopement was unforgettable, they had a very full and ambitious Maui elopement filled with laughter and love!
