Talitha and Ted’s private Maui, Hawaii waterfall elopement may be one of the most unforgettable locations I’ve photographed in the last year! I mean who doesn’t want to get married near a blissful waterfall while it’s drizzling onto nearby rocks?! And Maui is the perfect place for a waterfall wedding!
When Talitha and Ted reached out to me while they were looking for an elopement photographer they knew they wanted to have an adventurous and very intimate elopement. Talitha wanted to be surrounded by trees and water, as well as incorporate Iao Valley on their elopement day. As Iao Valley had sentimental value to them since that’s where they got engaged! Unfortunately, Iao Valley was closed while we were there but we still went and took a couple of photos, but decided against that location for their elopement ceremony.
Hawaii Waterfall Elopement Ceremony Location
Since Talitha and Ted live on Maui, they are familiar with a landowner who had a waterfall on her property! The landowner graciously let us use her property. When I first saw the waterfall I was in awe. This waterfall was unbelievable and the area is quite big. It can easily accommodate a group of 10-15 people and a huge plus is that it’s very accessible, with a short walk to the waterfall.
Not only that but, the landowner is so amazing that she allows this waterfall to be available to use for eloping couples who want extra assurance of privacy for their ceremony, so we of course couldn’t pass up the opportunity. Part of my job as an elopement photographer is finding new locations for elopements. Whether it’s on state, federal or private property. One of my favorite things is to meet and discover property owners that are open to having eloping couples book their space for their ceremony! For certain couples, it’s peace of mind to know that your ceremony will be 100% intimate by not taking a chance with other tourists or hikers walking by.
Elopement Day Itinerary
Talitha and Ted’s Maui, Hawaii waterfall elopement began in the middle of the day. We started off meeting at the landowner’s private property for their first look before we walked down to the waterfall. First looks are always my favorite! It’s such an intimate private moment for just the two of you. It allows you to experience the moment together and live in the present moment.
Waterfall Elopement Ceremony
After the first look, we headed down to the waterfall for their intimate ceremony. This may have been my favorite moment of the day. Seeing Talitha and Ted standing right next to the water with the glistening waterfall in the background surrounded by trees and greenery, it felt like we were in a movie! And the cutest duck decided to join them while they were exchanging vows! The entire ceremony was beyond beautiful!
After Talitha and Ted’s waterfall elopement ceremony we took some time to do the creative portrait session, and Talitha surprised me as she was a complete natural, I barely had to give her advice on how to pose!
Towards the end of the creative portrait session near the waterfall, both Talitha and Ted started to get hungry so we headed to a food truck area and grabbed a bite to eat. Almost every time I shoot an elopement I notice that brides and grooms don’t eat much for breakfast because of nerves and all the anticipation for the ceremony. Even for elopement ceremonies where it’s just the two of them, they are still incredibly nervous. So after the ceremony and portraits, they are incredibly hungry. One of the many things I love about Maui is the many food trucks around. It’s so convenient to get a bite to eat in between locations. And it’s the perfect time to sit and take a break while I capture some candids!
We ended Talitha and Ted’s Hawaii waterfall elopement at Iao Valley. Talitha and Ted’s special day was immaculate, they wanted to keep things simple and stress-free but wanted to have a quality experience, something that felt like “them” that incorporated meaningful areas of the island, and we were able to do exactly that.
